Culloville Camogie Club HistoryCulloville Camogie Club remains a small but growing club. Camogie was introduced into Culloville in the 1940's but with insufficient numbers to form a panel for each category, camogie only survived a short while. Culloville Camogie Club was revived in 1994 by the dedication and encouragement of Kathleen Woods (Principal of Clonalig Primary School) and Mrs Bernadette Byrne (RIP) a former Monaghan County player and Ulster Council Representative. A Committee was formed mostly of parents who had girls attending Clonalig Primary School.
The first committee in the club was: Geraldine O'Farrell (Chairperson), Patricia Watters(RIP) (Vice-Chairperson), Christine Watters (Secretary), Geraldine Rowland (Assistant Secretary), Marian Quinn (Treasure), Tereas McVerry (Assistant Treasure), Josie Watters (PRO), Siobhan Donnelly (Assistant PRO). The working committee was Majella Byrne, Bernadette Byrne, Claire Dale, Micky Hamill, Josie Goodman, Patricia McCreesh, Marian Dowdall, Eileen Traynor, Geraldine Hatzer, Anne Finnegan and Eilish Geoghegan.
Throughout our 15 years in competition, teams have won competitions at different age groups and levels. The first All-county Under 13 league was won in 1996 under management of Anne Finnegan and Imelda Hatzer when the team defeated Keady in the final.
In 2000 the senior girls, under the management of Thomas O'Neill and Anne Finnegan done the double and won the Div 3 league and became championship winners after beating Granemore in the championship final. The senior girls repeated the championship success in 2006 beating Clan na Gael in the final under the management of Paul Hughes and trainer Fran Mc Keown.
Throughout the years there were numerous girls won skill competitions and medal and 7 a side competitions, while a number of others represented the club at county levels.
Former principals of Clonalig primary school Mrs Philomena Toal (RIP), Mrs Kathleen Woods, Mrs Dolores Martin and current principal Mr Christopher Murray have kept camogie alive when they coached and entered girls in competition at primary level.
